莎士比亞讀書時(shí)就卓爾不凡，與眾不同。傳說他年輕時(shí)在鄉(xiāng)村當(dāng)過教師。也有傳言說他曾在一個(gè)叫托馬斯.露西的富裕財(cái)主兼地方行政長官的土地上偷獵，結(jié)果被露西的管家發(fā)現(xiàn)，他為此挨了揍。莎士比亞出于報(bào)復(fù)，就寫了一首譏諷大財(cái)主的打油詩。這首詩沒過多久便傳遍了整個(gè)鄉(xiāng)村。大財(cái)主無論走到哪里，總有人用這首打油詩來嘲笑他。托馬斯鄉(xiāng)紳非常惱火，于是準(zhǔn)備想辦法懲罰莎士比亞，莎士比亞因此被迫離開斯特拉福德小鎮(zhèn)，到倫敦避難。
